Your health and well-being is our first concern. Please advise us prior to the trip of any specific requests or requirements by you, or anyone in your group.
We will be outdoors for the entire 2-hour tour.
We strongly suggest:
- Bring a small pack/bag to carry your extra things (such as a waterbottle, etc.)
- Bring sunglasses, sunscreen and a hat to protect yourself from the sun & heat
- Bring along any device you like for capturing your experience (phone, camera, binoculars etc)
- Pack a water bottle
All our tours begin and end at the Métis Centre at 136 John Street, Sault Ste Marie, Ontario. Free parking is available on John Street. Please protect your valuables by bringing them with you, or leaving them at home.
There is a participant waiver for you to sign. The waiver can be filled out electronically here, or signed upon arrival.

Walking Tour
Led by a Métis Interpretive Guide
- Dress for comfort and the temperature.
- Wear comfortable walking shoes.
- If you suspect light rain, please come prepared to participate by bringing a waterproof jacket. (We will only cancel/re-schedule the tour in the event of an electrical storm or heavy rain).
- Please be on-time for the benefit of other participants and the timing of the tour.
- There are washrooms at Parks Canada Sault Ste Marie Canal site halfway through the Walk.
- En route, we will enjoy a locally-curated snack and a refreshing Métis drink.
Paddling / Walking Tour
Led by a Métis Interpretive Guide and 2 certified Canoe Guides
- Dress for comfort and the temperature.
- Wear comfortable walking shoes.
- If you suspect light rain, please come prepared to participate by bringing a waterproof jacket. (We will only cancel / re-schedule the tour in the event of an electrical storm or heavy rain).
- Please be on-time for the benefit of other participants and the timing of the tour.
- En route, we will enjoy a locally-curated snack and a refreshing Métis drink.
- Before boarding the Big Canoe on the St Marys River, LSWC guides will provide each participant with a comfortable, well-fitted PFD (life jacket). It must be worn throughout the on-water portion of the tour.
- Simple, easy paddling instruction will be provided before boarding the Big Canoe.
NOTE: No experience is necessary to paddle the Big Canoe! This seaworthy, very stable, 36ft. / 13m canoe can carry up to 12 participants + the Métis Guide and 2 Canoe Guides.
